Tell Me About Whole Foods Market
Over the past year I have spent A LOT of time online researching allergen free foods. I have had many discussions with various people about our favorite foods and where to buy them. Many times Whole Foods Market was mentioned and every time I would sadly reply "we don't have a Whole Foods here". Well, guess what...now we do! Whole foods just bought out Wild Oats here in Bend (I'm still not sure if that's a good thing or not). The problem is that now I'm wracking my brain trying to remember all of the product recommendations I got in the past that were available at Whole Foods. Now admittedly I have not been in the store yet, and when I do go I am sure I will not have a problem finding plenty of things to buy, but I would still love some input from our wonderful allergen free community. I would love to hear from anyone and everyone! What are your regular purchases, your favorites, or your least favorites (so I know what not to waste my money on)? I thank you in advance for your time and your responses... and, on that note, (I'm feeling very emotional today) I also wanted to let all of my kindred spirits out there know how much I appreciate you! Big allergen free hugs to everyone! :)
We do not get to Whole Foods very often because it is just far enough away to eat up nearly half the day by the time we get there, shop and drive back. Plus, it costs a fortune to shop there. But as everyone probably has told you, the Whole Foods Market is fantastic for many many items. You can find things there that you can't find anywhere else. Choices that are wonderful for those dealing with food allergies and special diets. Everything is the highest quality: meat, fish, produce, you name it. I am sorry I don't have any specific recommendations for you. Hope you'll post about your experience at Whole Foods after you get there!
ReplyDeleteOne of our favorite purchase from Whole Foods:
ReplyDeleteIan's Frozen Chicken Nuggets and Fish Sticks - Free from wheat, gluten, casein, milk, eggs, nuts and soy. Also, we use Gillian's Foods Bread Crumbs - free from wheat, gluten and dairy.
I usually buy boxed cereals, rice crackers, corn bread, rice / corn pastas and Pamela's baking mixes from Amazon as it's priced cheaper.
I hope this helps.
Thank you for your comments. I really expected to get more responses than I have. Seems like when we didn't have a Whole Foods Market people were always recomending them.
ReplyDeleteWe do not have a Whole Foods anywhere near us and I so wish we did. However, my sister lives in Austin and brought us some Enjoy Life foods. My son really loves their chocolate bars. Cherrybrook Farms is another one of our favorites. Especially their pancakes. I hope this helps.
ReplyDeleteMy son has about 25 different food allergies, not all of which line up with yours, so not sure if these will work for you. But here are our die-hard favorites that we can't find anywhere else:
ReplyDeleteErewhon Crispy rice cereal
Ener-g Foods wheat-free crackers
Whole Soy Co. Soy yogurt
Galaxy Vegan Soy Cheese
Gluten-Free Pantry mixes
Arrowhead Mills Rice and Shine hot cereal
Enjoy Life chocolate chips
San-J wheat-free soy sauce
Have fun shopping. I'm sure you'll find lots to love.
Thank you Elizabeth that does help.I'm excited, I think I'm finally going to get over there tomorrow! Again thank you all for the ideas.
ReplyDeleteI haven't really "published" my blog yet but there are tons of things listed on it from Whole Foods. All Dairy/Egg/Gluten/Tree Nut and Peanut free! :)

Thank you Ginger! I've been checking out your blog, it's always nice to meet a kindred spirit. Sam and Emily (my 6 yr old) have pretty similar allergies so your blog will be very helpful to me. Keep up the greeat work!
ReplyDeleteHow was your trip to WF? Here is what I think. I love them and hate them. I love that they have so much to look through and a lot of options that I can usually find something for my son. However, I hate them because they are always discontinuing to carry items that we find. There have been many items that we were thrilled to find, only to find they no longer carry it on our next visit. I'm going to check out what Amazon carries because price is always an issue at WF too. All this special stuff is expensive!
ReplyDeleteHonestly I don't know where this summer went! I still haven't even made it to WF. Thank you for your input though. Amazon is a great way to go if you have a chunk of money at once and a place to store food because they mostly sell in bulk. I buy my Pamela's bread mix from them because I go through a bag a week and it's about $2 per bag less than store bought.
